TKC 414 Amazon’s Mike Torres on Page Flip

Mike Torres 400

Director, Product Management – Amazon Kindle

Interview starts at 18:09 and ends at 43:26

The biggest technical challenge I would say is creating a seamless Page Flip reading experience across all of our platforms. Page Flip is available on eReaders, on Fire tablets, as well as the Kindle app for iOS and Android. Across those different experiences, we wanted to make sure that things like the performance, things like the fluidity, how it worked and how it behaved—all of those things were both tailored for the experience on the platform that it’s on, but it also felt natural, it felt simple, and it felt automatic.

I really enjoyed this episode. I especially appreciate Len asking his guest what he likes to read. I’m thinking about reading Kevin Kelley’s book so Torres had a timely and useful recommendation. It also helps me to understand the guest.

Another great show! I was wondering if my 3rd generation Kindle 8.9 HDX would get this update and checked after listening to the show today and discovered it had received it! Good to see that my older fire tablet gets at least some updates! I wonder when/if Kindles other than the Oasis will get the new Kindle sans serif font. I know that Amazon likes to keep things like this exclusive for a while with a new piece of hardware.

Also wanted to mention that the company I work for (Fiserv) posted on Facebook that they received an award for innovation for “voice banking concepts for Amazon Echo.” Good to see Alexa continuing to grow! Have a great Prime Day!

    Hi Len
I enjoyed hearing about the new Page Flip and export notes features for the e-ink Kindles on this week’s show. Just wondered if you’ve seen these features on your e-ink devices yet? I’ve got Page Flip (which is great) on both my Voyage and my Oasis, but I can’t see the export notes feature, and from how you described it on the show, it seems to work better from the e-ink devices than from the Fires or the apps for iOS and Android.
Am I missing something, or do I just need to be patient? I’m in the UK if that makes any difference although I can’t see why it should. I can export notes from my Fire. Any help gratefully received.
