I couldn’t resist buying the$1.99 Kindle Daily Deal this morning, because I remember sitting in a lecture hall 40-plus years ago watching the author of the book address a class of undergraduates with an attitude I can only describe as disdain. John Kenneth Galbraith was a brilliant economist, and he was taking us through another of his books, The New Industrial State, at the time. Today’s deal is about a topic I hope we’ve learned enough about, the Crash of 1929. The Kindle edition is titled The Great Crash 1929 and contains a forward by Galbraith’s son, James.
For today’s deals, the Galbraith book is sweetly paired with six of Lucy Cousins’s “Maisy the Mouse” picture books, also for $1.99 each. After reading about the Crash of ’29, it might be a good idea to spend some time reading a child or a grandchild a title like Maisy Goes to Preschool.
