News – 1)  A paper company launches a PR and ad campaign promoting–you guessed it–paper. 2) A leading Apple blog declares the iBooks Store “one big failure.” 3) Christopher Sutton takes us behind the scenes at filming of the latest Kindle customers video.

Tech TipAndrys Basten on the best way to restart your Kindle and Tom Lichty on using a new USB cable if your Kindle icon does not appear on your computer.

Interview (Begins at 12:16) – I reached Susan Moody, Director of Communications for WorldReader.org, by Skype in Barcelona on October 15.  We discussed, among other topics, the nonprofit WorldReader’s recently announced project to digitize thousands of books by sub-Saharan authors and publishers. The participating publishers include EPP Book Services, Sam-Woode Ltd., and Woeli Publishing. Click here for Kindle books from Africa now available through WorldReader, which receives half of the proceeds from the Kindle sales.  WorldReader’s mission to provide e-books to all children in the developing world is supported by donations, as well as partners helping out in various areas, such as web design, scanning, and Kindle covers.

Content – Good contemporary poetry is available on the Kindle. I mention examples by Tom YuillKim Addonizio, David Lehman, Neruda and Vallejo, John Ashbery, and Mary Oliver.  Of course there is also lots of great public-domain poetry available for the Kindle, including work by this rock star in his day.

Comments – Bryan Pheiffer on 3.0.2, Bob Lee on my nephew Stephen, Jonathan Drake on weird font-change problems,  help from George for Dorian Nisinson,  a question for Sarah Diment of the Beachmere Inn from Shelly Crawford-Stock, and Kate Harper’s link to SHARON ROSEN’S  Pixel of Ink blog.

NOTE on 10/22/10: I apologize for getting confused on the authorship of Sharon Rosen’s blog. Kate Harper emailed me an appreciative link to it and did not in any way suggest that she (Kate) was the author. You can purchase a Kindle subscription to Sharon’s Pixel of Ink blog by clicking here.

Next week’s Interview: My nephew Stephen returns to the podcast with a book report on Ender’s Game.

African Sojourn: We’ll be traveling in South Africa and Botswana for several weeks, leaving in a couple of days.  I’ve prepared and set for delayed posting three episodes that will arrive at the usual time, each Friday, while we’re gone.  While taking a break from weekly “live” podcasting, I’ll be writing longhand and posting photos and text as WiFi allows at LenEdgerly.com .

To note the third anniversary of the introduction of the Kindle on November 19th, I’ll have Steven Kessel, Amazon’s senior vice president, worldwide digital media, as my interview guest for TKC 122.
