No, it’s not always what happens. The books I’ve bought have had the photos that were in the hardcover book.

However, they should let us know when it doesn’t.

Amazon has an e-book policy that you can return the book for a refund within 7 days if dissatisfied with some aspect of it, and this would be one. You’d call 866-321-8851 in that case.

I’d let kindle-feedback@amazon.com at least know how you feel about this and that we should be told. You can also call their toll-free line (above) to let them know and to have them relay the message to the publisher as well.

I am a newcomer to your wonderful podcasts, having just had my Kindle 2 since mid-Dec. You must be a Monk fan too, since your theme is a group playing his tune, “Well You Needn’t.” Anyway, the 2nd ebook I bought was the long-awaited bio of him by Robin Kelley (well above $9.99, by the way). I loved the book. It is very good. However, I did not know that the printed version has photos. The e-version does not, nor is the customer told they aren’t included. That doesn’t seem right. Yet I see an ad for the Kindle showing the front page of the NY Times–with photos? Any idea why the did not include the photos? Is this what always happens?

Thanks for steering me towards the Kindle, I’m enjoying it a ton! I am always up late reading while my wife sleeps and found a gem of a reading light while in (of all places) Barnes and Noble. It’s called the Mighty Bright Black TravelFlex LED Book Light and its fantastic. It’s much smaller than the other lights, and doesn’t disturb my wife

I think, as more and more people acquire Kindles, the kind of shared-account Kindling and ad hoc reading groups you describe will proliferate, and that is a good thing. However, I have a question: Suppose several people are registered to the same account and are reading the same book. Will Amazon not sync all the registered devices to the same “latest page read” spot whenever the whispernet is turned on? In other words, won’t you always be at risk of losing your place, if someone else in your group reads ahead of where you are? Or does the synching take place on some other, more subtle basis?

Two matters related to your podcast and these comments.

1) I do NOT believe that you lose anything on your Kindle once you de-register it. Amazon does NOT take anything off your Kindle without your permission (such as canceling a purchase of a book). However, if it is de-registered, and you delete the book, you cannot reload it from archives (but could if you backed it up on your computer).

2) I’m pretty sure that you can have more than 6 devices on an Amazon account,. BUT, you may not be able to download a give book to more than 6 devices. Note that some self-published books have NO limit.

Al, to leave a review of the podcast at iTunes, start your iTunes program (free download for Mac or PC), then click on iTunes Store on left margin.

In search field at upper right, type “Kindle Chronicles” (without quotes). Then click on “The Kindle Chronicles.” You may have to scroll down a bit to reach the CUSTOMER REVIEWS area. To the right is a link for “Write a Review.” When you click on that, you’ll be asked for your Apple ID and Password if you are not already logged in. If you don’t have one, you can create one at no charge but they do ask for credit card info in case you buy stuff. The Kindle Chronicles, of course, is free!

Jimi, you ask an intriguing question, and I’m going to refer you to Kindle Support at 866-321-8851 for the most authoritative answer. I’ve heard it both ways – that you’ll lose what’s on your Kindle and that you won’t.

So, if I deregister my Kindle, and get on my mom’s account (she and I would like to share), do I lose what is currently on my Kindle?

Curious about the “deregistering” feature and “registering” on another account. Would it not be possible to “deregister” on sister’s account after you have downloaded the books you wish to read from sister’s account, “register” back on your own Kindle account, so that you can purchase books more easily? I’m currently registered on my husband’s account and we share books. My daughter also has a Kindle, and we would also like to share books, but without the cumbersome financial issues involved with purchasing books.

As always, I found your podcast entertaining and helpful.

I just returned from 3 days in London, where I dealt with the same problem Tom related. My wife also finds that my Mighty Bright light disturbs her sleep. I was jet lagged and wanted to use my Kindle at 2 am in our small hotel room. While debating whether to retire to the bathroom I encountered a blinding flash of the obvious. I settled fully under the covers with my Kindle and light, much as I had read after bedtime with a flashlight as a small child. My wife was undisturbed and reflecting the light off of the white sheets created perfect illumination for reading.

On a less positive note, during the flight home I was required to put away the Kindle for the final hour of flight, because of new security measures trggered by the Christmas Day terrorist incident over Detroit. Also, the attendants would not let me hold the device during takeoff, because it has a battery. I had neither of these problems on November flights to and from Rome.
